CompuServe, became the first major commercial Internet service in the United States and dominated in the 80's and into the mid 90's it had its largest user base ever at half a million users. After AOL purchased the company, the service had gone down hill ever since and falling to the waist-side of many other service popping up during the late 90's. However, all good things must come to an end and for CompuServe, it was July 1st 2009 when AOL officially shut down the services.Despite the old technology in the CompuServe services, there were still many loyal users still using the service up until this month. Those few remaining users were being encouraged by AOL to continue using their existing CompuServe email addresses for free on a new email system being hosted by AOL.
