Review: Brother MFC-6890CDW

The Brother MFC-6890CDW has intuitive onboard controls, and the oversized A3 scanner is equally easy to use. The optical quality is more than good enough for photocopying, although it's no match for a dedicated photo scanner for serious photographic use. The dual paper input trays are useful, although most A3 photo print jobs can only be handled from the upper paper input tray. Annoyingly, our review sample had a nasty and frequent habit of feeding photo paper into the printer in pairs of pages rather than singly, printing the first half-inch on one sheet and the rest on the other. This aside, photo print quality is surprisingly good in standard Photo mode, which is just as well as the highest quality setting is painfully slow, taking between four to 10 times longer than most inkjets from Canon, Epson and HP in their top quality modes.
