The U.S. military's global position system or GPS will be getting a needed upgrade in the upcoming days and weeks ahead. This morning around 6:30AM a two-ton satellite lifted off which was aboard a Delta 2 rocket and headed to a highly elliptical orbit. The new satellite will be used in the global position system and will replace the GPS 2R-26 which has been in orbit for over a decade now. Once replaced, the GPS 2R-26 will serve as a backup for the new satellite if something were to happen to it.
